MEET LISA
Lisa Schonhoff is a dedicated and experienced primary educator with over 20 years of experience and a passion for student success. Lisa specializes in English Language Learner (ELL) instruction, making her an excellent candidate to represent District 3 on the Nebraska State Board of Education.

Lisa's journey in education began at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Social Science. She taught English to Taiwanese students before moving to Kansas City to teach some of the most challenging students in that district. Lisa loves a challenge. While there, she earned a specialist degree in Urban Leadership Administration and her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Lisa became a Mentor and Instructional Coach to other Kansas City teachers, who benefitted from her expertise in literacy, math and ELL instruction for K-5 students.

Lisa believes in the importance of tailoring teaching methods to meet each student’s unique needs, ensuring they receive the necessary resources to thrive. She currently is teaching ELL students at Pine Creek Elementary in Bennington, designing curriculum to help them hone English language skills. She continues to train teachers, planning and facilitating professional development sessions.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Lisa is actively engaged in volunteer work. Through her involvement with MOPs (Mothers of Preschoolers), Lisa collaborates with local organizations to facilitate service projects benefiting her community.

Driven by a commitment to community education, Lisa’s primary goal in seeking a position on the Nebraska State School Board is to ensure that curriculum aligns with Nebraska state standards and reflects the values of Nebraskans. She firmly believes in granting teachers the autonomy they need to focus on literacy. Lisa is acutely aware of the rising rates of dyslexia and declining literacy scores, underscoring the urgency for educators to be adequately trained to address that challenge.

Recognizing the impending teacher shortage, Lisa understands the importance of state board members who comprehend the requirements for teachers to succeed. She aims to foster a collaborative environment, bringing together parents, educators and administrators, to focus on what’s best for students.

Lisa staunchly advocates for redirecting tax dollars towards essential educational priorities and returning to fundamental principles. With her experience in ELL instruction, passion for differentiated teaching, and commitment to conservative values, Lisa is dedicated to promoting excellence in education, supporting teachers, and ensuring high-quality education for Nebraska’s youth.

Lisa and her husband Dan, reside in Bennington, Nebraska. They spend a significant amount of their free time taxiing their 4 very active children – ages 6 through 13 – between a variety of extracurricular activities.
